Principal Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Library Administrative Supervisor, the Library Technical Assistant II performs the following duties supporting public access to circulating theater, dance, recorded sound and film collections of the Library for the Performing Arts:

  • Provides circulation service and instruction to library patrons of all ages
  • Assists with fines & fees management, collection maintenance/weeding, reserves and opening/closing procedures
  • Processes reserves and incoming Library materials
  • Answers questions from the public in person, over the telephone
  • Assists in planning and implementing collection maintenance projects
  • Instructs patrons on the use of the Internet, computer applications and other Library services
  • Ensures patrons follow library policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and relevant work experience in a research library or similar institution; some college experience or a Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Successfully demonstrated work experience in a library or similar institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successfully demonstrated public service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse patronage
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Strong computer and other related technology skills, including MS Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer services including on-line searching, social media and Library databases preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library resources preferred

USD $32,068.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary (with 2 years of NYPL service)

USD $36,879.00/Yr.
