Overview

The New York Public Library's Development Office seeks an Assistant Manager of Foundations & Government Grants with a passion for the Library and its mission, and an interest in learning about institutional fundraising at a major New York City cultural institution. This position will support the development of a variety of proposals and stewardship activities for the Library’s foundation and government donors, and will work on a variety of key projects in the branch and research libraries.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Foundations and Government Grants:

  • Drafts stewardship letters, event invitations, acknowledgement letters, and other general correspondence
  • Provides grant proposal support and assists in the development, writing and submission of letters of inquiry, new proposals, reports and renewal requests
  • Maintains and updates donor records in Raiser’s Edge
  • Coordinates and reviews donor lists and stewardship mailings
  • Assists in the online application and report process for the Library’s government aid programs
  • Maintains online registration and documentation paperwork for a variety of funding agencies
  • Helps develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for new and current donors
  • Conducts prospect research and identifies prospects; schedules and participates in donor visits
  • Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with Raiser's Edge preferred
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the Humanities or Liberal Arts
  • One or more years professional experience, preferably in fundraising, grant writing, and/or administrative-related duties
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including successfully demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent writing skills and strong communication skills, including a successfully demonstrated ability to work tactfully and effectively with internal and external constituencies
  • Successfully demonstrated experience working in a fast paced environment
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Meticulous attention to detail
