Overview

The mission of the New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities.   The Human Resources Department is committed to providing excellent service partnering with management to recruit and retain a highly qualified diverse staff; facilitate positive employee relations; train to enhance employee skills, performance and job satisfaction.  The team is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the planning and implementation of quality integrated human resources programs for a staff of over 2,700.   

 

The Talent Sourcing Specialist will be directly responsible for building and maintaining a pipeline of amazing candidates for roles throughout Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx.  The Specialist will partner with members of the recruiting team to profile, attract, and convert talented professionals into qualified candidates for positions at all levels within the organization.  In doing so, the Specialist will learn the qualifications for key positions, reach out to candidates with appropriate skill sets, update the recruitment management system, and coordinate and conduct initial interviews with candidates.  

Principal Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Talent Acquisition, the Talent Sourcing Specialist will:

  • Proactively source candidates through a variety of search methods to continually build and maintain a talent pool for positions at all levels
    • Source passive candidates through networking, cold calling, and creative research
    • Source active candidates from on-line databases, contact lists, internal databases, career fairs and employee referrals
  • Maintain candidate pipelines through direct outreach, information sharing, etc
  • Build partnerships with external groups to network with potential candidates and improve employer brand
  • Identify effective job advertisement avenues and manage postings
  • Screen candidates for experience and compatibility through resume reviews, skills assessments, and remote/ in-person interviews
  • Actively manage applicants through the recruitment process to ensure positive candidate and hiring manager experiences
  • Facilitate hires for salaried positions, including drafting letters, monitoring background checks, and system processing
  • Serve as system administrator for the Recruitment Management System and other recruiting platforms
  • Build and monitor candidate pipeline metrics
  • Develop creative methodologies for sourcing a diverse group of high quality candidates
  • Assist in developing a best practices environment for conducting research and investigating new sourcing methods to create innovative search strategies
  • Assist with identifying, implementing and memorializing practices designed to streamline and improve internal procedures
  • Support other HR related projects as necessary

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in sourcing, passive candidate identification, candidate vetting and candidate development
  • Must embody the Library’s core values: Be Curious, Be Resourceful, Be Helpful
  • Progressive recruiting experience sourcing for roles in a corporate or agency environment
  • Sound candidate engagement approach with the ability to activate passive candidates
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage recruiting commitments to achieve multiple priorities
  • Creativity in matching potential candidates to current or future job opportunities
  • Superior oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to creatively research and utilize resources to resolve problems
  • Commitment to service excellence and a proactive approach to enhancing HR processes
  • Demonstrated judgement, project management, and effective decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, sourcing platforms, social media, and research tools
  • Experience with Recruitment Management Systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Workday HRIS preferred
  • Experience using iCims preferred
  • Working knowledge of federal and local employment laws and best practices preferred
