  • Overview

    The New York Public Library is looking for an Associate Manager to join our expanding technology training team.  We are looking for an enthusiastic team player that would like to help us help our patrons.  The NYPL offers technology classes in more than 80 libraries across the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.  Adults at all different skill levels can choose from more than 80 different classes including Microsoft Office, iWorks, coding, photo editing, 3D printing, video production, understanding of iOS and Android operating systems and iMovie just to name a few.  The NYPL continues to experiment with new subject matter for our patrons and hopes to offer more Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) courses as well.  

     

     

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    This position provides support in the following areas:

    • Manage and oversee a team of NYPL technology trainers that deliver computer classes to library patrons
    • Conducts instructor-led technology training classes throughout the NYPL branch libraries as needed
    • Build and strengthen relationships between training team and library managers
    • Conducts quality control of trainings throughout the NYPL branch library system
    • Handles all aspects of reporting metrics to assess program outcomes of designated areas
    • Handles all administrative tasks relating to direct reports including timekeeping, updates and other duties of staff
    • Analyzes and evaluates reports and surveys and makes recommendations for improvement
    • Initiates outreach with potential partners/organizations to create new instruction opportunities
    • Travels throughout Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx as needed
    • Performs ad-hoc project related duties as required

     

    Requirements:

    • Prior experience teaching/instructing/training adults for related technology products and services

    • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience

    • Extensive knowledge of Mac and PC platforms

    • Strong aptitude for learning new and emerging technologies quickly

    • Demonstrated ability to use and provide assistance for:

      • Windows, Android and iOS operating systems

      • Productivity software including MS Office and iWorks

      • Photoshop and Illustrator

      • HTML and CSS programming

      • Video editing and/or audio production

    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication & presentation skills

    • Evenings and weekends as needed

    Preferred Qualifications

     

    • Demonstrated supervisory experience preferred
    • Knowledge of New York metropolitan area a plus

    • Ability to speak and write Spanish or Chinese a plus
