Under general supervision of the Borough Operations Manager, the library maintainer:
Performs repairs, installations and preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing equipment and general carpentry in the branch libraries of the NY Public Library
Assesses jobs and determines staffing and materials needs (makes recommendations as appropriate)
Picks up supplies and materials as appropriate
Tracks time spent on jobs using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Will travel to other Library locations throughout Manhattan, maybe Staten Island and the Bronx as needed
Performs related duties as required.

High School Diploma or its’ equivalent and successfully demonstrated experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and carpentry (including locksmith, door hardware, cabinetry, etc
Successfully demonstrated experience and education with HVAC systems
Demonstrated ability to assess job needs, assemble work materials and determine an appropriate course of action.
Ability to read blueprints and/or circuit diagrams.
Ability to use testing equipment: multimeters, flow-meters, gauges, and basic hand tools to help diagnose equipment problems.
Ability to do heavy lifting and set up and work from ladders, scaffolds and electric lifts.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Basic knowledge and experience using computers, including Gmail, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must pass physical examination.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Supervisory or training experience preferred.
Experience and education with electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems

Moderate physical effort is required, including bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
Minimum Salary (with 2 years of NYPL service)
40 hours per week Mornings and weekends as required Schedule subject to change
