Overview

Career, Education and Information Services (CEIS) provides career counseling, resume help, college application and essay assistance, and much, much more. We specialize in serving job seekers, re-entry, students, mid-career changers, emerging adults, veterans, and 55+ adults throughout the New York Public Library System.

Principal Responsibilities

The Career Services Associate serves as a primary contact for patrons, local employers, internal and external collaborative partners; arranges for meetings, schedules appointments, assists with all programs, services and events. 

In this role, the associate will provide support for programs and services at various library locations; schedules appointments for individual consultations with Career Coaches, Volunteers and Interns.

 

  • Maintains, updates statistical data and annual reports, assists with assessing  effectiveness and utilization of (CEIS) programs, services and events
  • Assists with coordinating onsite and offsite events, presentations, workshops, and programs; includes tracking RSVP’s, communicating with Attendees, Recruiters, Elected Officials and other Community Collaborators; Manages sign-in sheets, and works with media outlets and social platforms for effectively publicizing programs, services and events
  • Reviews, assesses, routes, answers and monitors follow up action steps of internal and external correspondence; Provides wide ranges of support including: MS Office Suite, data entry, composing and editing letters, spreadsheets, memoranda, reports, workshop materials, presentations and flyers
  • Schedules appointments and arranges for meetings, schedules appointments, assists with all programs, services and events; answers and routes phone calls, retrieves messages from answering machine daily; picks up mail and responds to e-mail messages promptly and disseminates information widely, as instructed
  • Monitors computer usage, content specific to employment, careers, vocational and academic purposes; assists with community outreach to promote and increase public participation and use of library services; ensures patrons follow library policies and procedures
  • Must have high degree of organizational and planning skills; assist with daily upkeep of (CEIS) Office; ability to travel between library branches, as needed; performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree
  • Successfully demonstrated public service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse patronage
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Strong computer and other related technology skills, including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google applications
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated high levels of proficiency in:  Administration and organization; Customer relations; Communications; Accountability; Positive attitude (optimistic)
  • Must have PC Proficiency, Data entry • Organizational and Time Management Skills
  • Grammar and Usage, Teamwork, Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Ability To Analyze Information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications including on-line searching, social media preferred
  • Experience creating, conducting and/or participating in community training, programming and outreach preferred
  • Ability to speak, read and write in a language other than English

Bronx Library Center (CEIS) Headquarters and other locations throughout New York City.
