Overview

The Public Programs department works to position NYPL as a vibrant hub of intellectual and creative activity, with a wide range of city-wide events, talks, performances and other cultural experiences that further the library's mission, reflect and highlight its core strengths, and attract, engage and inspire the widest possible audiences.

 

The Audience Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating community outreach, audience engagement, and the promotion of high-profile public programs. These programs will include ongoing series, digital programs, as well as new initiatives and partnerships meant to extend our reach and support the library’s mission. The coordinator will also provide ongoing research and production support for a range of programs.

Principal Responsibilities

Outreach and Promotion

  • Helps develop and apply strategies to encourage wider participation in Library public programs, including event-specific, cross-promotional and other targeted outreach to potentially interested groups and partners, with a focus on new and underserved communities.  Suggests niche marketing opportunities for promoting specific events and works with communications to implement.
  • Develops and tracks audience engagement data, including surveys, evaluations and focus groups, and reviews ticket buyer and subscriber data. Analyzes and determines a path to cultivating repeat visits and other engagement with the library.  Collaborates with development on efforts to cultivate potential donors through public programs.  Creates post-event emails and social media posts.  Develops and implements strategies to improve and enhance the the patron experience at events.
  • Creates and edits written content for online platforms including website, email newsletters, ticketing pages, blogs and social media networks, in close collaboration with communications team. Communicates with talent, partners, and other participants to coordinate social media efforts.
  • Creates and edits written content for print materials, including printed programs, onsite signage, ads, etc.

Production and Research Support 

  • Assists with the coordination and execution of events, including front of house logistics, box office, guest list, reserved seating, and other tasks.
  • Assists with program research and helps the team whenever/wherever extra hands are needed.   

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years experience in a non-profit arts organization, marketing, or media organization.
  • Professional experience working with social media and other marketing tools and ability to adapt quickly as best practices change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including superb copywriting and editing ability.   Must be able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled at working with diverse audiences and collaborating across departments.
  • Enthusiastic, personable, creative and diplomatic.
  • Flexible and skilled at juggling multiple projects at once.
  • Engaged in and inspired by current events, literature, and the arts.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Suite, and familiarity with design tools.
  • Able and willing to work nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with HTML text formatting strongly preferred.
