Overview

The EHS Analyst will have overall responsibility for assisting the Environmental Health and Safety Manager with protecting the health and safety of all New York Public Library (NYPL) Staff, Patrons and Visitors. The EHS Analyst will assist the EHS Manager by performing hazard assessments, site safety inspections, indoor air quality investigations and ergonomic assessments throughout the NYPL system. The position also requires diligent recordkeeping and other administrative duties related to maintaining the NYPL Health and Safety Program.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and other assignments as needed in support of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety
  • Site safety audits/inspections
  • Respond to employee Environmental Health and Safety related complaints
  • Assistance with investigating employee injuries and incidents
  • Performance of chemical Safety Data Sheet (SDS) reviews and database management 
  • Personal Protective Equipment evaluations
  • Assist in performing Job Hazard Analyses

Required Education & Experience

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and professional experience working in an Environmental Health and Safety or Energy department of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; or in educational, personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/ administration, labor market research, economic planning, fiscal management; or in a related area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments, with a high degree of accuracy, and meet deadlines in a high pressure complex environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (verbally and written)
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of applicable City, State, Federal, OSHA and NFPA workplace safety standards and health codes
  • Strong computer skills with experience using MS Office Suite and Google Suite products
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze and present complex data sets using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of database management on Microsoft Access and integrated workflow management systems.
  • Knowledge of Ergonomics

Physical Duties

  • Travel between NYPL locations throughout Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island
  • Lifting, standing, sitting, climbing ladders and other physical duties associated with safety inspections.
