    The Human Resources Department is committed to providing excellent service partnering with management to recruit and retain a highly qualified diverse staff; facilitate positive employee relations; train to enhance employee skills, performance and job satisfaction.  The team is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the planning and implementation of quality integrated human resources programs for a staff of over 2,900.


    The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for building and maintaining a pipeline of amazing candidates for roles throughout Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx.   The Specialist will partner with hiring managers and HR Business partners to profile, attract, and convert talented professionals into qualified candidates for positions at all levels within the organization.  In doing do, the Specialist will perform efficient full life cycle recruitment including strategy formulation, job description creation, marketing positions, sourcing, selecting and onboarding successful candidates. The Specialist will also participate in projects to market the organization and launch programs in support of special recruitment initiatives.


    Principal Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Manager of Talent Acquisition, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will:

    • Develop and execute on recruiting strategies to meet workforce needs
    • Proactively source active and passive candidates through a variety of search methods, including online searching, cold calling, candidate databases, career fairs and employee referrals
    • Screen candidates for experience and compatibility through resume reviews, skills assessments, and remote/ in-person interviews
    • Cultivate relationships with diverse networks to develop and maintain pipelines for top talent
    • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and Hiring Managers to develop job descriptions, determine compensation and onboard successful candidates
    • Actively manage candidates through the process to articulate NYPL vision, answer questions, negotiate job offers and ensure a positive candidate experience
    • Identify effective job advertisement avenues and manage postings
    • Guide managers through the candidate selection process, identifying essential skills and helping managers assess candidate compatibility
    • Build and train managers on tools to support effective interview techniques
    • Assist in developing best practices in innovative search strategies and candidate engagement
    • Build and monitor candidate pipeline metrics
    • Participates in and/or leads relevant special projects as needed

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
    • 2+ years of experience in full cycle recruitment, including sourcing, passive candidate identification, candidate vetting and candidate development
    • Progressive recruiting experience in a corporate or agency environment
    • Innovative and proactive approach to developing recruitment strategies
    • Sound candidate engagement approach with the ability to activate passive candidates
    • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage recruiting commitments to achieve multiple priorities
    • Creativity in matching potential candidates to current or future job opportunities
    • Demonstrated ability to develop positive candidate engagement practices
    • Superior oral and written communication skills
    • Commitment to service excellence and a proactive approach to enhancing HR processes
    • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to creatively research and utilize resources to resolve problems
    • Demonstrated judgement, project management, and effective decision-making capabilities
    • Experience leveraging online recruiting resources to identify, recruit and network for candidates (eg. professional networking sites, social media, job boards, resume databases)
    • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, sourcing platforms, social media, research tools and other data management systems
    • Proficiency with Recruitment Management Systems

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience using Workday HRIS preferred
    • Experience using iCims preferred
