  • Overview

    The BookOps Logistics  Department is primarily responsible for receiving, processing, sorting, and the delivery of all new and circulating materials for 150 branches across 4 boroughs which comprise the BookOps member libraries.  The workload volume for the Logistics Department is extremely high. In FY-17, one million new materials were received and processed and over 8 million circulating items were sorted and delivered. These materials are all in high demand and selected to meet the needs of the communities of New York. This service level is a foundation of the Access pillar of the NYPL’s Strategic Priorities. Access is made possible through the full staffing and leveraging of this unit.  The unit supports countless projects aligned with reading, learning, and Innovation.

     

    This Collections Processing Assistant II (CPA) serves 3 different departments within Bookops Logistics Operations: Receiving and Processing, Sorting, and Distribution.  The main functions of this role are to ensure the timely delivery of library materials to the bookOps member libraries. The major steps that are involved in this process are to receive, transport, process, shelve, sort and deliver library materials in an accurate and timely manner. CPA’s can work across any of these departments.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Works with manual and automated systems to sort library materials, supplies, and inter-branch mail accurately.
    • Prepares print and non-print library materials for circulation (separate and shelve new materials, linking records and labeling materials, cover library books for preservation, etc )
    • Receives and vets materials in the Integrated Library System (ILS)
    • Transports book trucks, and other book containers to designated destinations.
    • Separates designated materials and stages them for delivery.   
    • Sorts and delivers mail and packages throughout the building.
    • Vets and accepts incoming materials from USPS, UPS, and other vendors.
    • When necessary, works within other BookOps logistics units to provide service to our patrons.
    • Works on specialized projects as they arise
    • Performs other related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school graduation or high school equivalency certification.
    • Successfully demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment.
    • Good computer skills.
    • Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, punctuality and attention to detail.
    • Data entry knowledge.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, or Google substitutes where applicable.
    • Must be able to lift 50lbs
    • Must be able to push a loaded book cart
    • Must pass a physical

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in a fast pace environment.  
    • Part Time position will be scheduled for 17.5 hours per week, preferably over 2 days

    Work Environment

    The essential function for this job takes place in warehouse & office settings. This position utilizes elevators, material lifts, pallet jacks and book trucks to move materials to their proper locations.
