  • Overview

    NYPL Digital is the department responsible for the digital transformation of the Library in order to facilitate the successful transition to the delivery of core patron-facing services through digital platforms.

     

    Success will be achieved by the development of an affordable, scalable and achievable long-term plan comprising Infrastructure, Policies, Processes and the management of an appropriately motivated and skilled workforce to guarantee digital Preservation, Discovery and Access to the materials, assets and other resources provided by the Library, to all patrons in accordance with its stated mission and values.

     

    Reporting to the Director, Digital Products (DDP), the Product Manager (PM2) works with Senior Product Management staff and the engineering team to define products, drive completion of tech goals, establish priorities, and communicate to different teams, stakeholders and users at the library.  Working at the main NYPL branch location (of Ghostbusters fame), you'll experience taking products successfully through a product development lifecycle while learning and refining their Product Management techniques.

    The PM2 is directly accountable to the DDP for:

    • Delivering a product roadmap for their product area
    • Definition of delivery schedule
    • Developing of measures of success and KPIs for the each product and release
    • Go-to-market planning and adherence to a timely delivery schedule
    • Strategy and outcomes around UX testing and Accessibility
    • Producing high-quality products for our patrons and library staff

    Principal Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Director of Digital Products, the Product Manager 2 will:

    • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders,to build high-quality products for our patrons and library staff.
    • Analyze market trends and conduct “top down” competitive analysis to understand the current landscape, as well as “bottom up” understanding of our user needs.
    • Define high-quality tests and products to determine valuable new features and products.
    • Translate broad business and user needs into non-ambiguous requirements and product user stories for our development teams.
    • Facilitate conversations with stakeholders to keep them informed on product progress, or define new business needs
    • Manage multiple digital products in multiple departments
    • Identify and remove roadblocks to keep a project running smoothly
    • Work with technology and project management to negotiate key aspects of a product to ensure product deadlines and scope are met
    • Work with patrons to understand their needs; participate in Design Thinking sprints
    • Contribute to the product roadmap to define future work
    • Grow your skills by working with Senior Product Management leadership staff to learn multiple methodologies and techniques to grow further your professional development

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, psychology or related field
    • Demonstrable ability to work on a deadline and be decisive about product scope, goals, user needs and resources, in order to meet product releases
    • Data driven with strong analytical capability, able to define measurements of success and impact of a product
    • Organized, focused, extremely detailed oriented and adept at prioritization
    • Thoughtful problem solver, and a demonstrable ability to negotiate many stakeholder needs
    • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple technical and non-technical teams to develop goals and then aggressively pursue them with minimal supervision
    • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and users
    • Mature, empathetic, enthusiastic, and adaptable in large collaborative environments

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Experience with Content Management Systems preferred
    • Experience working in the education space preferred
