  • Overview

    NYPL Digital is the department responsible for the digital transformation of the Library in order to facilitate the successful transition to the delivery of core patron-facing services through digital platforms.

     

    Success will be achieved by the development of an affordable, scalable and achievable long-term plan comprising Infrastructure, Policies, Processes and the management of an appropriately motivated and skilled workforce to guarantee digital Preservation, Discovery and Access to the materials, assets and other resources provided by the Library, to all patrons in accordance with its stated mission and values.

     

    This role is located in the flagship Stephen A Schwarzman Building.

    Principal Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Director of User Experience and Design, the UX Architect will:

     

    User Research

    • Research and communicate qualitative information and manage a monthly dashboard of user analytics
    • Create prototypes for and actively participate in user testing
    • Establish the schedule of regular user testing and recruiting participants
    • Conduct user testing at various locations around NYPL
    • Design surveys for both detailed and directional feedback
    • Coordinate and contribute to documentation of research and testing results, for use by NYPL Digital and other library staff and stakeholders

     

    Design Solutions

    • Develop user flows to facilitate the design process of features, templates and tools
    • Develop wireframes and functional specs

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BFA or BA in related field
    • Strong grasp of research best practices and practical applications
    • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative user research
    • Experience working with Google Analytics or similar tools
    • Experience in creating user and screen flows, conceptual and detailed wireframing, and prototyping tools
    • Experience working with Sketch
    • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
    • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your experience and research skills
