  • Overview


    The Performing Arts Library circulation unit manages circulation operations of an elite collection of performing arts materials which consists of drama, dance, and music books, musical scores, and a vast collection of DVDs and music CDs.  The unit also oversees the Internet services and copy services.

    Principal Responsibilities


    Under the supervision of the Library Administrative Supervisor, the Library Technical Assistant III:


    • Works as part of a team to provide public service and assist with outreach/program activities
    • Processes patron applications, including data entry, filing, and related tasks
    • Provides assistance to patrons on the use of computers and other technology or software
    • Prepares print and non-print library materials for circulation, involving some data entry at a PC
    • Assists with reserves, inventory, circulation and other related duties
    • Resolves individual patron complaints or concerns regarding circulation services
    • Assists with supervision of Clerical and Library Page - scheduling, assigning work, evaluating, training and determining effective use of staff
    • Handles cash transactions and related reporting
    • Inspects and sorts print and non-print materials
    • Assists with creating and carrying out improvements to staff procedures and user experience of the Library
    • Performs related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or its equivalent
    • 2 years experience managing staff (preferably in a public service library)
    • Experience performing library circulation duties, including library card registration, collecting fines, and processing reserves
    • Strong commitment to public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patronage
    • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
    • Successfully demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
    • Experience managing department financial activities, including collecting fines, depositing money, and preparing related reports
    • Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
    • Strong computer and other related technology skills, including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google applications, PC, Macs, e-readers devices and Sierra ILS

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge of computer services including on-line searching, social media, and Library databases
    • Demonstrated knowledge of library resources

    • Limited physical effort is required
    • Lifting up to 40 lbs required
    • May require travel within NYC

    Starting Salary

    USD $35,596.00/Yr.
