  • Overview

    The Development Department at The New York Public Library raises funds from private sources to support the mission and vision of The New York Public Library. The team is made up of a dynamic group of development and events professionals who together represent expertise in all areas of fundraising, including individual, corporate, foundation and government grants, special events, membership, planned giving, and systems management.

    Principal Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Vice President for Development, the Assistant to the VP for Development will be responsible for all aspects of the daily management of the VP for Development’s office. The assistant anticipates the day to day needs of the VP, making any possible allowances for a fast paced, rapidly changing schedule. The assistant serves as a liaison to President’s office for scheduling, correspondence, and special handling of board members.

     

    • Effectively and proactively manages VP’s schedule and workflow, as well as all phone and written correspondence, often acting as face of the Development office to both internal and external contacts
    • Create and maintain reports to the President’s office on Development activities
    • Liaison between VP and Directors, and assist all Directors as needed
    • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly meeting agendas for both internal staff and external groups of donors and/or contractors
    • Manage and execute special projects as needed
    • Performs related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 3-5 years office experience required
    • BA required
    • Strong writing and communication skills
    • A strong sense of initiative and the ability to take the lead on individual projects
    • Able to prioritize urgent tasks while managing daily responsibilities
    • Adept at Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Visio, EventPro and Drupal preferred

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced degree preferred
    • Knowledge of NY cultural institutions and/or development preferred
