  • Overview

    The Digital team is responsible for ensuring that NYPL's collections of assets and other materials remain contextually relevant and fully accessible to the global public in order to further understanding, appreciation and the potential for the creation of knowledge and the representation of culture, while the dominant technologies that determine access and use continue to evolve.


    NYPL Digital is seeking a self directed Project Manager to organize and lead the implementation of a multi faceted digitization project that will ensure the long term preservation and patron access to the Audio and Moving Image collection.The successful candidate will be apply PMI project standards and be adept in working across organizational boundaries, cross functional teams and stakeholder groups to plan, organize, lead and control the deliverables within scope, budget and timelines.

    Principal Responsibilities

    The Project Manager:

    • Leads and manages cross-functional project and technology teams to deliver the next generation of digital asset management and digital preservation infrastructure
    • Act as the main point of contact for stakeholders
    • Responsible for planning, managing, monitoring and controlling the execution of the digital initiatives throughout the project life cycle
    • Develops project plans and schedules to monitor and track progress and on time delivery
    • Proactively manages risk and issues, including mitigation strategies to keep deliverables on target
    • Develops and maintains accurate and detailed project documentation, including regular reporting to leadership
    • Leverages both traditional and agile practices and principles and collaborates closely with Scrum Masters to monitor progress
    • Provides accurate budget tracking and reporting

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Minimum of 3-5 years experience managing projects in technology/digital media company
    • Experience with Agile and Scrum project delivery practices and tools (eg. Jira, Confluence)
    • Strong and effective communication skills, along with ability to align multiple priorities with different teams
    • Knowledge of industry standards in project management and development methodologies (PMBOK, Agile, Scrum)
    • Excellent facilitation, organizational and time management skills
    • Demonstrated creative problem solving skills
    • Demonstrated ability to hold team members accountable for deliverables
    • Excellent problem solving and structured thinking skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve results   
    • Knowledge & experience in effective project cost tracking
    • Skilled in working with Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, Trello, Slack       

    Preferred Qualifications

    • PMP and/or CSM (Certified Scrum Master) Certifications strongly preferred
    • Self starter and fast learner
