  • Overview

    The Theatre Division is one of the library’s largest and most actively used divisions, providing access to theatre history materials for students, scholars, and artists from around the world.

     

    This Curatorial Assistant would serve to assist the Curator of the 2019 exhibition on Harold Prince and the Assistant Curator of Theatre.  

     

    This is a temporary position, which is expected to last for 31 weeks. The position would ideally start in May or June of 2018 and run through the opening of the show (possibly in May of 2019). The exhibition might also open in September 2018 and the job would then begin in September 2018.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Researching NYPL’s collections to identify items to include in the exhibition
    • Maintaining an object list of all items to be included in the exhibition (as originals and as facsimiles)
    • Managing the paperwork for external loans (of costumes and set pieces not part of our collections)
    • Assisting with the installation of the exhibition in 2019
    • Managing the paperwork needed for permissions for the Theatre on Film and Tape collection
    • Supporting the Digital Curatorial Assistant with metadata and preparation of material for registrar shipments to the DIU
    • Assisting with the writing and proofing of label text
    • Managing material through the conservation pipeline

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Familiarity with archives
    • Familiarity with best practices for museum exhibitions
    • A strong knowledge of theatre and the work of Harold Prince

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience with video editing (iMovie, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve)

    Work Environment

    Office and museum environment.  Exposure to dusty collections.

    Starting Salary

    USD $20.00/Hr.
