    The New York Public Library (NYPL) has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas, and education for all New Yorkers for more than 100 years. NYPL’s neighborhood libraries in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island—many of which date to Andrew Carnegie’s visionary philanthropy at the turn of the 20th century—are being transformed into true centers of educational innovation and service, and vital community hubs that provide far more than just free books and materials.  


    The Facilities Department is hiring a Supervising Library Maintainer to manage a painting crew with various projects and repairs throughout NYPL branch locations. 


    Principal Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Operations Manager the Supervising Library Maintainer:


    • Supervises the activities of a painting crew tasked with completing painting projects and painting repairs in all NYPL Locations
    • Works hands on in the areas of painting, plastering and drywall
    • Develops and works off of a prioritized master schedule to coordinate project work
    • Estimates labor and materials required to complete projects
    • Monitors and approves time, using the Library’s etime- system, for maintenance staff on painting team.
    • Prioritizes assigns and tracks work orders.
    • Makes daily rounds and inspects sites, and makes recommendations for modifications, construction, and repairs.
    • Maintains inventory and orders materials.
    • Recommends personnel actions and reviews vacation schedules.
    • Prepares daily and monthly reports.
    • Must be able to respond quickly and tactfully to emergency situations.
    • Performs related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School graduation or equivalent supplemented by successful completion of appropriate trade or vocational courses.
    • Successfully demonstrated experience working for a commercial painting contractor, preferably as a foreman.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of established practices and procedures for managing commercial painting projects
    • Ability to do heavy lifting and set up and work from ladders, scaffolds and electric lifts
    • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining work schedules for staff
    • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to work well with staff at all levels
    • Successfully demonstrated ability to prepare and work from sketches
    • Successfully demonstrated computer skills including ability to generate reports and process work orders using a computerized maintenance management system
    • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Valid driver's license with good driving record
    • Must pass pre employment physical

    USD $55,294.00/Yr.


    40 hours per week to be scheduled
    Evenings and weekends as required
