  • Overview

    The Library for the Performing Arts has one of the world’s most significant collections of research materials about music, dance, theatre, and recorded sound. A large part of this collection falls under the umbrella of “special collections,” which includes rare and fragile materials such as archival collections, loose sheet music, photographs, programs, clippings, scrapbooks, manuscripts, fine art, and rare books. All these materials are used in the Katharine Cornell-Guthrie McClintic Special Collections Reading Room on the 3rd floor of the library.


    Principal Responsibilities

    • Provides customer service on Print Delivery desk, including handling emails and phone calls, entering Library cards applications, paging materials if needed, resolving customer service matters, and assisting with laptop requests
    • Coordinates flow of materials between LPA and other Research Libraries public service divisions
    • Assists with Copy Services as needed, including filling requests and handling invoice processing
    • Assists in ReCAP processing, including processing incoming materials
    • Maintains Print Delivery and Copy Services equipment and re-orders supplies as needed
    • Assists with special projects as needed
    • Performs related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A minimum of HS Diploma or GED and successfully demonstrated work experience in a research library or similar institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Exceptional customer service skills
    • Experience working in a fast paced environment and ability to work well under pressure
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently and accurately
    • Experience working with bibliographic citations, handling microforms, and rare/ fragile materials
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associates Degree
    • Experience working with bibliographic citations, handling microforms, and rare/ fragile materials

    Physical Duties

    • Lifting up to 15 lbs.

    • Sitting and standing for periods of time

    • Daily use of a computer

    • Pushing and pulling book trucks

    Starting Salary

    USD $32,068.00/Yr.

    Minimum Salary (with 2 years of NYPL service)

    USD $36,879.00/Yr.


    35 hours per week to be scheduled during branch hours
    Evenings and Saturdays as required
    Schedule subject to change
